글로벌 해운기업인 덴마크 머스크와 IBM이 블록체인 기술을 활용하기 위해 합작회사를 설립함
지난 1월 17일 IBM에 따르면 해당 회사는 글로벌 해운 생태계 전반에 적용할 수 있는 국제무역 디지털 플랫폼을 공동개발 및 제공해 화물 운송시 간소화된 절차를 통해 국제무역 업무의 투명성을 제고할 계획임
양사는 해당 플랫폼에 블록체인과 더불어 IBM 서비스가 제공하는 인공지능(AI), 사물인터넷(IoT), 애널리틱스 등 클라우드 기반 기술을 활용하고 디지털 솔루션을 통해 화물의 이동 및 추적이 가능하도록 지원할 예정임
이같은 신규기술들은 제조사, 해운사, 포워딩 업체, 항만‧터미널 운영사, 화주 및 세관 등 관련 업계와 기관들, 고객들에게까지 확대하여 혜택을 제공할 계획임
머스크와 IBM은 2016년 6월부터 블록체인 및 클라우드 기반 기술 관련 협업을 지속해왔으며,
양사의 블록체인 플랫폼은 다우-듀퐁, 테트라팩, 미국 휴스턴 항, 네덜란드 로테르담 항만 커뮤니티 시스템,네덜란드 관세청 및 미 관세 국경 보호청 등 다수의 관련 기업 및 기관에서 시범 운영된 바 있음
머스크와 IBM은 관련 산업의 니즈를 충족시키고자 전문 인력으로 구성된 자문단을 발족해 플랫폼과 서비스를 구체화할 것이며, 향후 발전 방향의 제시와 함께 오픈 플랫폼 표준 설립을 가속화할 것이라고 밝힘
