- 미 의회, 미국내 조선업 활성화 법안 발의
- 존 개러멘디 미 하원의원과 로저 위커 상원의원은 미국의 전략적인 국내 건설과 해양 산업의 재탄생을 목표로 하는 '미국 선박법'을 재도입하고 있다. 제안된 법안은 미국의 해상 상거래를 규제하는 연방법인, 이미 존재하는 존스 법에 큰 힘이 될 것으로 보고 있다. 존스 법은 국내 미국 무역에만 적용되며 다른 국가로 화물을 운송하는 선박에는 해당되지 않는다.
새로 발의된 법안에 따르면, 미국 선박은 2041년까지 전체 해상 LNG 수출의 15%, 2033년까지 전체 해상 원유 수출의 10%를 운송하게 된다. 이 법안이 통과되면, 많은 선박의 건조를 촉진하고 미국 조선소와 국내 선박 부품 제조와 해양 산업에 일자리를 지원할 것으로 예상된다.
