- 해당 협약의 목적은 바다에서 유실·유기·폐기되는 어망을 수거하여 해양을 청소하고 새로운 부가가치를 창출함과 동시에 이와 관련한 탄소 발자국을 줄이는 것임
- ALPESCAS의 회원국인 아르헨티나, 우루과이, 브라질, 콜롬비아 등은 6차에 걸친 온라인 회의를 통하여 협약에 서명함
- 향후 2023년까지 총 4,500톤 이상의 ‘유령 어구’를 재활용할 계획인데, 2021년에만 600톤 이상의 그물을 재활용하여 60만 달러 이상의 부가가치를 창출할 것으로 예상됨
- 2013년 설립된 뷰로사는 해양플라스틱을 스케이트보드나 선글라스 등의 업사이클링 제화로 제작하는데 주력하고 있음
