The objectives of the study are to analyse the comparative advantages of logistics cost of the major containerized export cargo in the East Asian countries, such as Korea, Japan, Hongkong, Taiwan and China and to suggest some measures that domestic export companies can take to improve their competitive position in the world marketplace. This study deals with specific factors related to logistics cost, i.e. transportation, customs clearance, storage and stevedoring for the chief items of containerized cargo exported by the largest company in each nation. The major containerized cargo are television sets, computer monitors, tyres, footwear, textiles and stuffed toys which exports are positioned in the high ranks in terms of shipping volume. The costs are investigated on the assumption that cargo moves by forty(40) foot containers from plant site of origin to Los Angeles or Rotterdam as destination through its main port in one country. This study reveals that domestic export companies are paying higher level of logistics cost than foreign ones. This comparative disadvantage in logistics cost is worst in the areas of customs clearance and inland transportation.
