ESCAP has been propelling the TAR activation project, which is very meaningful to Korea. If used effectively the TAR in our country can make the international logistics system work better. It connects our country with the northeast China, the far east of Russia, central Asia, middle east Asia, and eastern and western Europe through the Eurasia continent. 



At present, not only ESCAP but also such countries as Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Poland, Belarus, and Germany containing TAR railroad are pouring efforts to construct and operate an effective TAR system. This will offer TAR an opportunity to build up competitive power. 



This study analyzes the impact of TAR on the international transportaion network of northeast Asia. It presened a presents to operate an intermodal system piercing through the Korean peninsula. Especially, in the relation of constituting TAR, it considered the factor of contructing TKR. Constitution of TKR and TAR will contribute largely to the establishment of an international logistics central base on the Korean peninsula, and so enhance national competitive power. 



In order to make a plan for a new multimodal transport system utilzing TAR, we considered various problems and capabilities in each routes of TAR. 



In Chapter 2, we analysed recent conditions and problems of TSR and TCR routes. In Chapter 3, to propose an improvement plan of the multimodal transport system, we analysed the content of a previous ESCAP`s TAR study. Also, we estimated the transport volume of TAR route between the Far-east and Europe. 



In Chapter 4, to make TAR an efficient multimodal system, we proposed five transport routes. Moreover, we presented a time and cost comparison of multimodal routes including TAR with a deep sea route. Last, we analysed the meaning of TAR with regard to the multimodal system and international logistics system in Korea and the North-east Asian economy and proposed the policy options that Korea could take.
